Jury deadlocks in Cosby trial; judge says keep deliberating

Wyatt said his hope was for the jury to continue to receive the same treatment it's been receiving up until this point.

On Wednesday, Cosby chanted the popular "Fat Albert" catchphrase to supporters after the jury's negotiations wrapped up for the day.

Mr Cosby, 79, is accused of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his Philadelphia-area home in 2004. She read a prayer before telling Cosby's supporters what she says he did to her. It is likely Cosby would remain free on bail until that decision is made or the case is dropped. If the panel can't break its impasse, O'Neill could declare a hung jury and a mistrial. The seven men and five women did not provide reasons for the deadlock, simply saying in a one-sentence note, "We can not come to a unanimous consensus on any of the counts".

Q: What did the judge tell them? Cosby has denied every claim, saying his encounters with Constand and others were consensual.

O'Neill's instruction to the group to keep working was delivered as part of what is known in Pennsylvania as "Spencer Charge" - a last admonition to the jury that it is important to reach whatever verdict it can in a given case.

On Thursday, the 12-person jury announced that it was unable to reach a unanimous decision after nearly 30 hours of deliberation but were sent back to the negotiating table by the judge. "Justice means he's given a fair and impartial jury". Inside the courtroom, sitting shoulder-to-shoulder, were several of the 60 women who have accused him of sexual assault since the scandal broke in late 2014.

Cosby is charged with sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his home in suburban Philadelphia in 2004.

Dozens of women have come forward to say he had drugged and assaulted them. "And this deadlock shows the not guilty that Mr. Cosby has been trying to bring about".

Bill Cosby has arrived for the fourth day of jury deliberations in his sexual assault trial.

Jurors who have appeared stressed and even angry seemed more upbeat than on previous nights, despite enduring another marathon session in a case that has already helped torpedo Cosby's career and nice-guy reputation. Deliberations will resume Thursday morning.

Constand was in the courtroom and showed no emotion as the statement was read. Cosby admitted giving some of them pills or alcohol. Each carries a maximum 10-year prison term, though the counts could be merged at sentencing if he is convicted. Some of them looked defeated as the judge sent them back to the jury room. The note explaining the status of the jury's deliberations was time-stamped 11:06 a.m. - minutes after the jurors passed the 30-hour mark in deliberations that began Monday afternoon and have been marked by complaints of exhaustion.
