Canadiens acquire Jonathan Drouin from Lightning

The Montreal Canadiens traded for Jonathan Drouin on Thursday acquiring the 22-year-old from Tampa for prospect Mikhail Sergachev

As for Drouin in Montreal, the Canadiens have needed some scoring on the wings and if he is paired with Alex Galchenyuk and Brendan Gallagher, he's going to do some serious damage and possibly eclipse the 30 goal mark for the first time in his career.

The Tampa Bay Lightning announced Thursday afternoon on Twitter they have traded forward Jonathan Drouin and a conditional 2018 sixth round pick to the Montreal Canadiens.

Hours after the trade, the Canadiens signed Drouin to a $33 million, six-year contract that means he will count $5.5 million against the salary cap through 2022-23.

Even so, the end of this Lightning season once again prompted speculation that Drouin could be on the move, as he was Tampa Bay's prime trading chip in their effort to shore up a woeful defense. The 22-year-old Drouin has what it takes to be a star in the National Hockey League who can produce 60-70 points each season - the Canadiens gave a lot to get him, but they clearly don't have any buyers remorse.

Warriors Dominance over Cavs will Help the Celtics in the Long Run
No matter how much firepower the Lakers could throw out there in such a matchup, three points per shot always beats two. James was asked if it's good for the league, or even fair, to have such a dominant team.

"And I think it could also be the tip of the iceberg for the Montreal Canadiens, with more potentially to come". "I'm still kind of in shock that it actually happened". Drouin who is now 22 years old has recently had a lot of drama around his name in Tampa not liking the role he was playing and wanted more minutes.

Ken Campbell of The Hockey News provided the details on what could Montreal's next pursuit. "Every day when I wake up, I try to make the team better and for the next two weeks - especially with the crunch we're in - I'll try that and anything's possible". "I know you're probably exhausted of that answer, but that's the only answer that I have for you". He ultimately rejoined the group for the 2016 playoffs and piled up 14 points in 17 games.

Drouin is due a pricey, new second contract this summer, which - along with expansion - was a likely factor in Tampa's decision to part with him. General manager Steve Yzerman won't have to sign him to a pricey extension either. "We drafted (Sergachev) previous year ninth overall, but to get a young player of Jonathan's calibre, it's something as an organization we could not pass by".

Sergachev, an 18-year-old, 6-foot-3, 215-pound defenseman, skated in four games for the Canadiens during the 2016-2017 season, spending the majority of the season with the Memorial Cup-winning OHL Windsor Spitfires. Sergachev, the ninth overall selection in the 2016 NHL Draft, is considered to be a highly skilled two-way defenseman with an excellent offensive upside who is ready to jump into the NHL next season.
