E3 2017: Super Mario Odyssey Developer Diary Leaps Into View

17 June 2017, 07:02 | Brandon Parsons

The co-op multiplayer functionality that is included in the upcoming platformer game Super Mario Odyssey will allow a second player to control Mario's cap Cappy.

In the local co-op mode, players will see that Mario's hat will float around Mario's head.

Although, Mario will still be continuing with its traditional features such as running and jumping, and controlling the camera, it would no longer be able to control the Cappy. Firstly, player two's Cappy can just fly off in any direction within a certain radius of Mario and simply hover around. Cappy also helps in solving puzzles in the game.

Cappy also gets to collect coins and collector's items along the way. However, during the event, Nintendo did drop a hint that Mario could control Cappy in some way, but how, it was not revealed in the demo.

What May Be in the Senate's Health Bill
They have argued that the law is too costly and represents undue government interference in Americans' healthcare. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, urging the Senate to repeal all Obamacare taxes.

This type of two-player mode also seems like a way to protect Mario from incoming enemies. Game director Yoshiaki Koizumi said that was the biggest challenge they faced when developing the game - as Nintendo hasn't toyed with a sandbox-style Mario in 15 years.

"Super Mario Odyssey" launches this October 27 for Nintendo Switch.

If you think this is another run-of-the-mill Super Mario game (like "Super Mario 64" or "Super Mario 3D World,"), you're wrong. In a lot of ways, Super Mario Odyssey is reminiscent of this past title, which is just fine as Sunshine is the ideal game to draw inspiration from for the Switch's first Mario title.

In co-op mode, player two will take control of Mario hat in Super Mario Odyssey.
