GBI says reward money for escaped inmates will be divided between citizens

With help from a neighbor, the man held the two escapees at gunpoint until law enforcement arrived to arrest them.

Rowe and Dubose were booked into the Rutherford County jail in Murfreesboro.

"Maybe a lot of people are getting a reward out of this", Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director Mark Gwyn told reporters.

Rowe and Dubose were on a state corrections bus with 31 other prisoners Tuesday morning when the two somehow got out of what should have been a locked, gated rear section of the bus, police said.

This photo provided by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation shows the arrest of the two Georgia fugitives Donnie Rowe, top, and Ricky Dubose, bottom, in Christiana, Tenn., Thursday, June 15, 2017.

"If that doesn't make you believe in Jesus Christ, I don't know what will".

A tip from a couple who had been held hostage by escaped Georgia inmates and help from armed citizens led to their capture in Rutherford County Thursday night. Police believed the suspects then stole a second vehicle in Morgan County, Georgia, near a home where they were believed to have broken into to change clothes, authorities said Wednesday.

They were on their stomachs, hands cuffed behind their backs, staring up at more than a dozen law enforcement members. Authorities earlier captured Donnie Rowe and Ricky Dubose, two escaped inmates wanted in the slayings of two Georgia prison guards.

The man and woman "are lucky they're alive", Bedford County Sheriff Austin Swing said.

Reports that a home owner held the escaped convicts at gun point are incorrect.

They left the horrific scene, carjacked a driver who pulled up behind the bus and fled in the man's Honda Civic.

The suspects fled in the couple's vehicle and fired on sheriff's deputies chasing them on Interstate 24 about 50 miles southeast of Nashville, Tennessee Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Bill Miller said.

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said there are a number of factors that will determine when the men can be returned to Georgia, and none of that was settled by early Friday.

The inmates had run through the woods to a home on Pruitt Road, near the rural community of Christiana.

Monica and Billue were transfer sergeants at Baldwin State Prison.

Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal applauded the "tireless efforts" of law enforcement but also turned his thoughts to the families of the two officers, saying their pain remains. They ultimately left the truck in Tennessee and stole a white sedan, which they abandoned near the hostages' home, Swing said. The Tennessee and Georgia bureaus of investigation weren't immediately sure who would collect the reward.

"We will do everything in our power to support their loved ones, and we will not forget their sacrifice and service", Deal said.

Rowe is serving life without parole for armed robbery, the department of corrections said, and Dubose is serving a 20-year sentence for armed robbery.
