Meanwhile, talks are continuing between the DUP and Conservatives, to secure the support of the DUP's 10 MPs in steering government business, including crucial measures on Brexit, through the Commons.

British Prime Minister Theresa May sought to strike a deal with a Northern Irish Protestant party to save her premiership on Tuesday as she came under intense pressure to soften her approach to Brexit days before formal European Union divorce talks.

"We're ready on the European side".

Chief Whip Gavin Williamson, who flew to Belfast for talks with the Unionists at the weekend, is continuing to lead for the Conservatives.

Speculation has mounted that an agreement will be hard to reach due to the deal now being negotiated between the DUP and Conservative Party to support the Tory government.

Almost a fifth of the UK's food and drink exports go to the Republic of Ireland and in March industry bodies from across the British food and drink sector wrote an open letter to various government departments calling for "frictionless" tariff-free trade with Ireland to continue post-Brexit.

"She said she will serve us as long as we want her".

THE TORIES HAVE been told that forming a government with the DUP could jeopardise the peace process in Northern Ireland . The BBC reported that a deal with the DUP was expected to be signed on Wednesday.

"I am concerned about the deal, I am wary about it, I am dubious about it, both for peace process reasons but also for other reasons as well", he told BBC Radio 4's the World at One.

As he arrived at the Dail in Dublin ahead of Enda Kenny's formal resignation as taoiseach, Mr Adams said incoming Irish premier Leo Varadkar needed to put his efforts into restoring powersharing north of the border.

The Tories and the DUP are considering a "confidence and supply" arrangement which would see the Northern Irish party back the Government to get its Budget through and on confidence motions.

"We are impatiently waiting for the negotiating position of the United Kingdom gov [ernment]".

He said "We need to do everything we conceivably can to ensure that doesn't happen, and that does require an impartial British government".

"And we itemised those matters in which she was dilatory or in default in relation to that agreement", he added.

Senior British minister and prominent Brexit campaigner Michael Gove said on Tuesday that Britain will leave the EU customs union, which guarantees tariff- free trade within the bloc but prohibits members from striking third-party trade deals. "So it is about a sensible Brexit", she said.
