High-Speed Ferry Crashes Into Jetty Off Cape Injuring 9

The high seas and gusting winds made getting boats and helicopters to the scene a hard task, Kenney said. But none of the injuries are considered life-threatening.

Officials have increased the count of passengers injured in a Friday night ferry accident off the coast of Cape Cod to 13.

The Coast Guard teamed-up with local responders late Friday and early Saturday to rescue 55 people stranded aboard a high-speed ferry that hit a jetty while entering Hyannis Harbor. It serves a 26-mile route between Nantucket and Hyannis.

There were 48 passengers, six crew members and three food service workers on board, according to the authority.

The Coast Guard and local fire, police, and harbormaster boats responded to the crash at 9:30 PM on June 16 according to a Coast Guard press release.

The Spaniard is set to play next against the victor of the match between Germans Tommy Haas and sixth-seeded Mischa Zverev . The second set brought a similar scoreboard, with 12 easy holds on both sides, setting up another tie break.

The Coast Guard says at least four people were injured after a high-speed ferry struck a jetty in Hyannisport and began taking on water.

Response boat crews from Coast Guard Stations Woods Hole, Chatham, and Brant Point are transferring the remaining passengers and crew to safety.

The Coast Guard is investigating the cause of the grounding and working with the Steamship Authority to assess damage and make sure navigation in the area is safe.

Last year, a Steamship Authority freight ferry collided with another ferry docked in Woods Hole when its engine stalled. It can hold up to 400 people.
