Four US soldiers killed in apparent insider attack in Afghanistan

USA soldiers have been wounded.

Abdul Qahar Araam, spokesman for the Afghan Army's 209th Corps, said earlier that the Americans were fatally shot.

At least four American soldiers were shot and killed by an allied Afghan commando at a base in northern Afghanistan on Saturday, a military official said to Reuters.

Earlier this month, a convoy carrying USA and Afghan forces was struck by a roadside bomb and came under small arms fire.

"The incident is now under investigation", the statement said, adding that "More information will be provided as it becomes available".

The NATO-led Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan said it has opened an investigation, adding no U.S. or Resolute Support forces were killed.

In a statement, the Taliban praised the "patriotic Afghan soldier" for the assault, but the group did not claim responsibility for the attack.

DUP hopeful of deal with Conservatives sooner rather than later, says Foster
Chief Whip Gavin Williamson, who flew to Belfast for talks with the Unionists at the weekend, is continuing to lead for the Conservatives .

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said this week that he will present a new U.S. military strategy for Afghanistan, along with adjusted troop numbers, in the coming weeks to President Donald Trump.

More than US 2,000 troops have died from both combat and noncombat causes in the country since 2001.

For the month of June, U.S. officials have reported at least three other Americans wounded in action in Afghanistan. It was the second such insider attack by an Afghan soldier in the past week.

More information will be provided as it becomes available, they said.

"The Taliban have been able to bring in soldiers into the Afghan army and make them sleepers, as it were, until the right time", journalist Ahmed Rashid told Weekend All Things Considered in April.

Addressing to the House and Senate lawmakers, Mattis said by mid-July will be providing a comprehensive strategy for the country.
