Jurors Hear Cosby's Story -- But Not From Him

Defense lawyers have been barred from discussing Constand's on-again, off-again relationship with a woman around the time she accused Cosby of sexually assaulting her in 2004 at his home in Cheltenham. At the time of the incident, Constand was 31, Cosby 66.

The trial is expected to run almost two weeks, with the defense launching their case in the next few days.

Less than a month after Bill Cosby told a radio host he would not testify at his sexual assault trial in suburban Philadlephia, the embattled comedian may be having a change of heart.

Cosby eventually settled with Constand for an undisclosed sum, and his deposition was sealed for years, until a judge released parts of it in 2015 at the request of The Associated Press. In the interview, Cosby admitted he gave Constand several pills, which he said were over-the-counter Benadryl.

Because Cosby had said he did not intend to testify in his own defense, the deposition was poised to be the only chance for jurors to hear directly from the defendant. She said she has neither bias against or toward Cosby.

Earlier Cosby told the court he apologised to Ms Constand's family because her mother thought he was "a dirty old man", according to testimony read to the jury.

Cosby indicated in the deposition that he did so because she and her mother were upset, not to compensate her for anything he did wrong. Pacing the floor, the lawyer showed the courtroom a Facebook post from Valliere's company linking to a Washington Post article about the Cosby case during the pretrial period.

"This is your argument and I understand your argument", O'Neill said to McMonagle.

With his deft touches at the net perfectly working, the Guntur-born shuttler built an 11-6 lead at half-time. From then on the lead kept shuttling between the two till the Japanese edged out the mammoth game 28-26.

The New York Timesreported on Friday, however, that a spokesperson said Cosby may, in fact, testify.

ON THE STAND: Psychologist Veronique Valliere testified that victims of celebrities often are afraid to come forward because of the possible backlash.

McMonagle emphasised that Cosby was deposed only after local prosecutors opted against criminally charging him, and that the criminal investigation was tabled for a decade.

The outcome of his trial in the Philadelphia suburb of Norristown, Pa., largely hinges on whether jurors believe Ms. Constand's testimony, which came on the trial's second day.

Ms Constand's mother testified previously that she had called Mr Cosby to confront him about the incident after her daughter disclosed what had happened.

Speaking with police 12 years ago, Cosby acknowledged that he fondled Constand after giving her what he said were cold-and-allergy pills to help her relax.

Cosby then re-emphasized that it was he who asked to put Andrea Constand on the phone, and continued: "What am I hoping to get if I'm guilty of drugging somebody".

Cosby was accompanied Friday by comedian Joe Torry, who a day earlier joined fellow actor and comedian Lewis Dix in support of the 79-year-old actor. Prosecutors have suggested he gave her something stronger - perhaps quaaludes, a highly popular party drug in the 1970s that was banned in the United States in 1982. Actress Keshia Knight Pulliam, who played his daughter, Rudy, on "The Cosby Show", was at his side as he made his way into the building.
