Retirement isn't on Jimmie Johnson's mind

Seven-time NASCAR Cup champion Jimmie Johnson signed a three-year contract extension to remain at Hendrick Motorsports through 2020, the organization announced Friday.

In addition, Lowe's Companies Inc. has extended its longstanding relationship with Hendrick Motorsports after signing an agreement that will continue its full-season, 38-race primary sponsorship of Johnson and the No. 48 Lowe's Chevrolet SS team through 2018.

As the auto spun, the seven-time champion was able to keep it away from the outside wall, but the No. 48 shot toward the infield, and the splitter dug into the grass as soon as the vehicle left the asphalt.

This marks the second time in three weeks Johnson will be forced to start at the rear as his Hendrick Motorsports team made a rear gear change prior to the MENCS race at Dover earlier this month. "That experience is as cool as it's ever been and I'm really enjoying it right now". Beyond that, Johnson is leaving his options open.

"We have a lot of momentum right now and I think we brought a good auto again this weekend, so it would mean a lot to me", Jones said. I'm sure discussions will take place about an extension for him. Johnson, however, won the title previous year at age 41 and has no interest in stepping aside. "I told somebody earlier today that I was jealous a year ago watching Kyle Larson get his first win here because I was saying, 'Man, that sure would be pretty storybook if I could do something like that.' I'd love to get my first win here".

"I've said it before, I want to finish it with him, " Johnson said. "I'll keep leaning on him". I get it, but I don't have a vision of if it's three, if it's five, if it's seven, I don't know. "I've said it so many times, but it's hard to ignore where I sit on the wins list and not let my competitive spirit kick in and want more".

Jimmie Johnson isn't going anywhere, and he isn't hanging up his helmet just yet.

"Jimmie is one of the best to ever drive", owner Rick Hendrick said in a statement. "Instead of it being necessarily a statement and shown through a lifetime contract we have just had a handshake and agreement among friends that I've got a vehicle and I've always told him I'm never going anywhere".
