House Majority Whip Scalise, 51, was shot in the hip by a rifle-welding critic of the president who sprayed bullets on USA lawmakers practising for an annual baseball game in the Washington suburb of Alexandria.
Scalise is being treated in the hospital's intensive care unit. He will need additional operations, possibly in the coming days. Griner remains hospitalized at MedStar Hospital after getting shot in the ankle, and Sava described her in good condition. The team doesn't plan on removing them all soon: The Congressman has already undergone multiple surgeries in the last 36 hours.
"The congressman's status remains critical", Dr Jack Sava, the director of trauma at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center, told reporters.
The man who opened fire at a baseball practice among Congress members had a list in his pocket that included Republican members of Congress. He arrived "in critical condition with an imminent risk of death", Sava said, adding that now, "we are encouraged by improvement in his condition". A lobbyist, a congressional aide, and two Capitol Police officers were also injured in the shooting.

Speaking in Miami on Friday, Trump said Scalise "took a bullet for all of us". "We all owe Steve a big, big thank you".
A single rifle wound caused "substantial damage" to Scalise's internal organs and blood loss, his doctor explained Friday. When he arrived at the hospital, however, he was in a state of shock.
"I was surprised by some of the reports also", Sava said.
Predicting when the congressman would be released from the hospital was hard, the doctor said, adding that "he will require a period of healing and of rehabilitation". Sava said Friday that there are hundreds of bullet fragments in Scalise's body, but "we have no intention to try and remove all the bullet fragments at this point". His risk of death is "substantially lower" than it was when he was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday, and "I think that an excellent recovery is a good possibility", Sava said.
Scalise's doctors estimate the congressman will be recovering in the hospital for the next couple of weeks.
Nathan Beaulieu traded to Sabres
He also opened the regular season on Montreal's top pairing with Shea Weber , but was quickly moved in favour of Alexi Emelin. Beaulieu makes sense for the Sabres, though, as he's a smart two-way player who can work on the man advantage.
