In that last category, the makers of the Sphero robotic ball, the remote control BB-8 from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens", and the most recent robotic vehicle from "Cars 3" have something new, and like the Cars 3 robot, it's a very different gadget. So whether it's about deciding where stuff gets placed or how it unfolds, Spider-Man's not gonna be killing people.

A few weeks ago, Sphero announced its Cars 3 tie-in with their new 'Ultimate Lightning McQueen' app-controlled toy. That adds up quickly. Unlike Siri, Alexa and Google Assistant, which share voice commands with the cloud to process what's being asked, all of Spider-Man's voice recognition is handled by a dedicated chip inside the toy. The toy can connect to a Wi-Fi network, but that is only for software updates and downloading additional content. The toy's microphone is also only turned on when the spider logo is glowing, so it's incapable of always listening. He said Spider-Man is only listening when the spider on his chest lights up, and the user's voice is never stored or shared.
