Thomas makes charge up US Open leaderboard

Justin Thomas reacts after making an eagle on the 18th hole during his third roun of 63 at the USA golf open.
Johnny Miller owned the previous best round of eight-under 63 set at the 1973 U.S. Open at Oakmont.
His round began with back-to-back birdies, and although he dropped a shot on the fourth, he responded with an incredibly inventive birdie putt on the 5th that kick-started momentum for his record-breaking low round.
Justin Thomas had himself a day.
His ball ended up just over six-feet away, and Thomas looked likely to gain the outright lead with an eagle. Perhaps it was to wipe off the sweat, but if this was a cap tip, he's justified.
His eagle came on the 667-yard 18th, as Thomas hit a 330-yard drive, then knocked his 3-wood to 8 feet and made the putt.
"I was just trying to get to 63, just because I know that's kind of the magic number; 62 is what everybody's been chasing", Thomas told Fox Sports after his round, per ESPN. "I had no idea about the relation to par, so that was definitely a big bonus".
As it turned out, his miracle putt was just a sideshow for just how good the 24-year-old, who has three PGA tour wins this season, finished on Saturday.
When Thomas joined the lead there were seven players packed tight at seven-under, including overnight leaders Englishmen Paul Casey and Tommy Fleetwood and Americans Brooks Koepka and Brian Harman.

Nathan Beaulieu traded to Sabres
He also opened the regular season on Montreal's top pairing with Shea Weber , but was quickly moved in favour of Alexi Emelin. Beaulieu makes sense for the Sabres, though, as he's a smart two-way player who can work on the man advantage.
