Mueller expands special counsel office hires 13 lawyers

However, the Justice Department spokesman Ian Prior said Friday Rosenstein sees no reason at this point to recuse himself, however, adding, "As the deputy attorney general has said numerous times, if there comes a point when he needs to recuse, he will".

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein issued a statement late Thursday night that warned Americans to "be skeptical" of stories based on anonymous sources after reports in recent days about the focus of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.

The special counsel appointed to investigate Russian influence in the 2016 presidential campaign is now examining whether President Donald Trump tried to obstruct justice, The Washington Post reported Wednesday evening. Mueller also has expansive powers to investigate any matters that develop from his initial investigation.

The White House confirmed Mr Mueller was among the candidates the president interviewed to replace Mr Comey. The tweet seems to confirm that he is, in fact, being investigated, but CNN notes that it's unclear whether Trump's text is referring to reports that he's under investigation or whether the White House received official notice that he's being investigated. While he was strongly critical of some of Comey's testimony to a Senate panel, the president said last week that the former Federal Bureau of Investigation chief had vindicated him when he said that while he was at the agency, Trump was not the subject of the FBI's Russian Federation probe.

Minnesota officer acquitted in shooting of Philando Castile
Anthony Police Department, the city announced on Friday. "He killed my boyfriend", Reynolds is heard saying in the video. Yanez counters that he believed Castile was a suspect in a convenience store robbery that had occurred four days earlier.

The transition official spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to discuss post-election decisions publicly.

Trump ignored shouted questions from reporters about the ongoing Russian Federation controversy as he departed the White House Friday for Miami.

The sad fact is, almost all the political holes the president now finds himself in are ones he dug himself, via tweets and other impromptu public statements.

The tweets were clear signs of the president's frustration and anger over the revelation, published on Wednesday evening in The Washington Post, about the investigation by Mueller, who is heading an independent probe into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election. The memo asks for preservation of electronic communications and data, telephone logs, audio recordings, videos, calendars and other items.

Trump, who hired his own lawyer last month to represent him regarding probes by the special counsel and congressional committees, kept up his criticism of the investigations in a series of tweets on Friday.

The new allegations against Trump center on his own admission that he fired Comey because of the Russian Federation investigation, and suggestions he asked several top intelligence officials for their help altering the inquiry's direction.
