Turkish FM: Qatar Wants An End to Crisis

Qatar-Based Broadcaster Al-Jazeera's Twitter Account'Suspended

U.S. institutions are with Doha and not easily influenced by political changes, a Qatari official is quoted as saying.

US President Donald Trump has signalled his support for the Saudi-led move but other US officials have been more cautious and called for dialogue to end the crisis.

Qatar is an important base for the USA military carrying out operations against Islamic State militants and other groups in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and beyond.

In November, under the administration of former President Barack Obama, the United States approved a possible sale of up to 72 F-15QA aircraft to Qatar for $21.1 billion.

"The $12-billion sale will give Qatar a state-of-the-art capability and increase security cooperation and interoperability between the United States and Qatar", the Pentagon said in a statement.

The U.S Congress agreed past year to sell fighter jets to Qatar while the latest deal came after a recent Gulf crisis began between some Arab states and Qatar.

Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah has launched a mediation effort after Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt severed ties with Qatar, accusing it of sponsoring terrorism.

"It indicates that the US Department of Defense under Mattis is performing the grunt work of keeping the US-Qatari security relationship moving forward", Heras said.

In another development, two US Navy vessels arrived in the Gulf on Wednesday for a joint exercise with Qatar's fleet, according to Doha state media.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu is due to visit Saudi Arabia on Friday in an attempt to help solve the crisis.
