Confederations Cup: Chile beats Cameroon as VAR draws controversy

19 June 2017, 12:39 | Sandy Nunez

Alexis Sanchez has sprained his ankle in training Saturday, June 17, 2017 and may miss Chile's Confederations Cup opener against Cameroon.

Chile will rely heavily on Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchez and Bayern Munich superstar Arturo Vidal.

"We don't risk any player who is not in condition to play and who could aggravate an injury", Pizzi said, when asked if Bravo could return for the South American champion's second game Thursday against Germany.

Chile has defeated Cameroon 2-0 in a group stage match of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup which is underway in Russian Federation. Shortly before the end of the match shot scored Vargas - Sanchez after a solo run beat the goalkeeper and shot on the empty goal, but got in the way of the defender, the rebound from which the ball went to Vargas.

Cameroon goalkeeper Jospeh Ondoa was required to do plenty of work in the first-half although inside the first minute the upright did his job for him as it denied Vargas.

New Zealand and Bangladesh cling on to Champions Trophy semi-final hopes
The England bowlers later on bowled with fire to restrict the New Zealand batting line up to 223 runs. He said: "I certainly think [we have alighted on our best team]".

Ondoa had to palm away a Jose Fuenzalida shot two minutes later as Chile took firm control.

However, clear chances were hard to come by until Vargas fired high and well over the bar after being played into a pocket of space in the 40th minute by Vidal.

Cameroon carved out their first chance after 11 minutes as Vincent Aboubakar forced Herrera into a good save from close range, following a swift counter attack.

In the second period Cameroon were resigned to very few notable efforts with captain Benjamin Moukandjo firing his free-kick wide.
