For some presidents, Camp David became a regular place to retreat or to welcome world leaders.

Melania Trump said she was looking forward to it as a weekend of family fun.

Rustic? Not so much.

President Trump is making his first trip to presidential getaway Camp David on Saturday (June 17) after five months in office and nine weekends spent at his private clubs in Florida and New Jersey.

Almost five months into his presidency, this will mark President Trump's inaugural visit to the secluded government-owned retreat in Maryland's Catoctin Mountains. Almost five months into his presidency, Trump is heading to Camp David, the government-owned retreat in Maryland's Catoctin Mountains, for the first time. "It's nice, you'd like it", he quipped. "You know how long you'd like it?"

The Trumps set off on the 30-minute journey by helicopter from the South Lawn of the White House with the first lady's parents, according to a White House press pool report.

But others speak of the presidential retreat more kindly. He says he is familiar with Trump's eating habits as well, having consulted on a handful of Trump property restaurants.

His latest remarks followed Trump's furious Twitter outburst on Friday in which he announced he is under investigation in connection with a probe into Russia's alleged meddling in last year's presidential election that has dogged the White House and has intensified in recent weeks.

"There's a great element of secrecy", Thurmont Mayor John Kinnaird told CNN in March.

The complex issues of the Russia probe, special counsel
Sources tell ABC News that he may have to pull out since he does have final say over parts of the special counsel's investigation. The FBI and Congress are both looking at whether Trump campaign officials colluded with the alleged Kremlin plot.

And then there's the mice.

There's skeet shooting, basketball, tennis, horseback riding, rock climbing, a movie theater, bowling, even laser tag - not to mention so many hiking trails that it's easy to get lost. "It was Rosalynn's Secret Service agent trailing them".

But at least one hoped the place had been de-bugged prior to the first family's arrival - but he wasn't necessarily talking about the creepy-crawly kind. Camp David may not be a prime spot for the president's favorite sport, however.

"Everything that a president needs in the White House is built-in there", said Anita McBride, who was First Lady Laura Bush's chief of staff. George Bush, Sr.'s daughter was married there.

Trump's immediate predecessors had made multiple trips to Camp David - 70 miles northwest of the White House - by this point in their first term.

It has not been revealed why Trump made a decision to visit #Camp David this weekend. However, there is golf.

The residence has also been used by U.S. presidents to receive visiting foreign leaders and host diplomatic talks. It was reported that the reason he had been avoiding Camp David is because it is so secluded.

The president has been using his own Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach as a retreat but chose Camp David as his Father's Day getaway.

This weekend could be the deciding factor.
