At least 12 people were killed when six attackers mounted simultaneous gun and suicide bomb attacks on Iran's Parliament building and the tomb of the republic's revolutionary founder, in one of the most audacious assaults to hit Tehran in decades.

The authorities say Iranian security forces killed the mastermind of the attacks on Saturday (June 10) and that more than 50 suspects have been arrested around the country.
Iran said late Saturday night that the alleged suspect who planned twin terrorist attacks in Tehran last week had been killed, The Associated Press reported early Sunday. He did not however state which country had been involved.
He added that the mastermind of the operation, who had fled the country, was killed by Iranian security forces with help from friendly intelligence services.
He denounced the White House reaction to the terror attacks as an obvious sign of Washington's support for terrorism and said such stances are a disgrace for governments that claim to be advocating human rights and fighting against terrorism. "America's claim of fighting against Islamic State is a lie", Khamenei said in a meeting with high-ranking Iranian officials, according to his official website.Iran and the United States cut diplomatic ties shortly after Iran's 1979 Islamic revolution and enmity to Washington has always been a rallying point for hardline supporters of Khamenei in Iran.Khamenei has made several statements denouncing the United States since the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, while U.S. President Donald Trump has spoken out against Iran in harsh terms since taking office, indicating that he will reverse the previous administration's attempts at rapprochement with Tehran. "We are not satisfied with the answers given so far", Asadullah Abbasi, a lawmaker was quoted as saying by judiciary's news agency, Mizan.
In Wednesday's attacks no member of the parliament was killed as the attackers were unable to reach the main building.
