Israel goodwill Ramadan efforts cut after Palestinian attack

19 June 2017, 02:35 | Opal Carroll

According to eyewitness, Israeli forces raided the houses of three Palestinians who were killed after carrying out shooting and stabbing attacks in East Jerusalem on Friday.

This was the first time that the Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for an attack in Israel, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors extremist organisations.

However, a senior official from Hamas, the Islamic group that rules the Gaza Strip, and the People's Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) said the three attackers, who were all shot dead at the scene, were their own members.

Over the past 18 months the Old City, and the Damascus Gate in particular, have seen numerous "lone wolf" attacks by Palestinians, and in one case a Jordanian national.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu excoriated the Palestinian Authority and its ruling Fatah party Sunday for its failure to condemn Friday's terror attack in The Old City of Jerusalem, and called for intensified global pressure on the Palestinians to end stipends to terrorists' families.

Major General Yoav Mordechai - head of COGAT, the Israeli defence ministry agency responsible for civilian affairs in the Palestinian territories - said the 250,000 family visit permits were cancelled in response to "encouragement to terrorism" by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fateh movement.

So I want to turn your attention to on another aspect of this story: the reactions of the terrorist organizations, who clamored over each other to take responsibility for the terror attack.

Russian Federation dominate New Zealand in Confederations Cup opener
Football fans shone with excitement as the Russian team won the opening match of the Confederations Cup against New Zealand . In the pre-match press conference, Osorio showed respect for Portugal , but also warned of his own team's attacking prowess.

The three men were armed with knives and an automatic weapon and carried out near-simultaneous attacks at two locations.

Jerusalem police chief Yoram Halevy identified the three attackers as Palestinians from the West Bank.

Border Police officer Hadas Malka was killed on June 16, 2017 in a stabbing attack near Damascus Gate.

This headline left out the fact that the three terrorists were killed, only after they they attempted to assault Israeli policemen and killed a young Staff Sgt. Maj.

"This is an obvious form of collective punishment, it is not acceptable - all those who are using these permits to meet with their families and to be with them during Ramadan are doing so during the month, because most of the year they are not able to do so", Touma-Suleiman said.

About 42 Israelis have also been killed in attacks carried out by Palestinians since October 2015.

Israeli police said on Friday all the assailants were from the occupied West Bank. Israel blames the violence on incitement by the Palestinian leadership.
