NBC to air Jones interview despite efforts to 'distract'

Connecticut's NBC affiliate WVIT has decided not to air Megyn Kelly's interview with Alex Jones because the wounds of residents after the Sandy Hook shooting are "understandably still so raw".

"Despite Alex Jones' efforts to distract from and ultimately prevent the airing of our report, we remain committed to giving viewers context and insight into a controversial and polarizing figure, how he relates to the president of the United States and influences others, and to getting this serious story right".

On Dec. 14, 2012, Adam Lanza, 20, went on a shooting rampage that killed 20 children and six adults.

NBC Connecticut is refusing to air the interview.

The story, scheduled to air Sunday evening, has NBC being buffeted from both sides.

Kelly has reached out to victim's family members and at least one has agreed to be interviewed, the Courant reported.

Megyn Kelly was replaced as the host of a gala fundraiser for Sandy Hook Promise on June 14th as a result of the interview.

Since the controversy has erupted over Jones' interview, Alex has released claims that he taped his whole interview with Kelly, and leaked a video wherein Megyn allegedly tells Alex that her interview won't be a hit piece on him. He said he secretly recorded her and that, in addition to the released audio clips, has a full recording of their entire unedited sit-down interview. However, prior to the interview being aired, Jones released the below interview, titled "Alex Jones Father's Day Message To Newtown Families" on the YouTube channel named "The Alex Jones Channel", which has more than two million subscribers as of this writing. "It is our hope that Megyn and NBC reconsider and not broadcast this interview". The families told NBC that the interview is likely to cause devastating human consequences.

Kelly, who gained prominence as an anchor at Fox News, joined NBC at the beginning of this year.

Kelly has called Jones' claims "revolting" but says there's value in exposing what he says to the American people.
