The world No 2 missed the cut for the second year running

McIlroy missed the cut at the 2017 U.S. Open but plans to play next week in the Travelers Championship. That's not up for debate and professional athletes should always expect criticism when they fail to perform.

McIlroy took a screenshot of his own Wikipedia page that lists all of his achievements that includes three European Golfer of the Year Awards, two PGA Player of the Year Awards and four majors won before adding that his worth is "more like $200 million".

Elkington then attempted to dismiss McIlroy as a "money guy" (although we're sure he would have gladly accepted the winnings if his career had been more successful).

"Not bad for a "bored" 28-year old. more where that came from".

"Rory is so bored playing golf ... without Tiger the threshold is probably four majors with 100mill in the bank".

Confederations Cup: Chile beats Cameroon as VAR draws controversy
In the second period Cameroon were resigned to very few notable efforts with captain Benjamin Moukandjo firing his free-kick wide.

The Australian didn't hold back on social media, claiming McIlroy is no longer interested in competing and that money is now his only motivation.

The top 18 players on the halfway leaderboard were all looking to make a breakthrough into the big time, with English duo Paul Casey and Tommy Fleetwood sharing the 36-hole lead alongside Americans Brooks Koepka and Brian Harman on seven under par.

The wind is also forecast to be light all day, so birdies should again be plentiful.

Webb Simpson, the 2012 champion, and fellow American Tyler Light will be the Saturday dew sweepers, teeing off at 8.26am Central (1336 GMT), with the final pairing of Casey and Harman out at 2.29pm Central (1929 GMT).
