Long knives come out for Pelosi as Democrat losing streak grows

The Latest Trump questions Obama's handling of Russia intel

President Donald Trump weighed in Thursday, tweeting, "I certainly hope the Democrats do not force Nancy P out".

"When he found out that, I, you know, that there may be tapes out there, whether it's governmental tapes or anything else, and who knows, I think his story may have changed", Trump said.

"So you want me to sing my praises, is that what you're saying?" the California Democrat remarked dismissively to reporters when asked why she should stay on as leader.

An Animal House, all-is-well quality colored Nancy Pelosi's Thursday press-conference postmortem of her party's Tuesday defeat in Georgia.

The most expensive congressional election in history (around $50 million) left Democrats holding a mixed bag.

That "Republican playbook" obviously is working, declared Democratic Rep. Kathleen Rice of NY, who concluded in an interview Thursday that Pelosi's time in leadership is over. "If we don't, then I think it's incumbent upon her and all of us to reassess who our leadership should be".

In an appearance on "Fox & Friends" that aired on Friday, Trump said he would like Pelosi to stay right where she is because she has an "extraordinary record against her". Similarly, Massachusetts Representative Seth Moulton claimed that the group's ultimate goal would be to, as aforementioned, remove and replace Pelosi as House Minority Leader ahead of next year's midterm elections.

Whilst there may be Democrats in the House plotting to oust Pelosi, that doesn't mean there's any clear successor to her. When Democrats have no choice but to rely on a banjo-playing, cowboy hat-wearing political neophyte to run a statewide race in Montana, it's a safe assumption that there are some recruiting issues that run deeper than House leadership. That's bad news for Democrats hoping to score big wins locally and across the country in 2018.

Gergen added that the odds of a Trump re-election is high and will continue to increase if the Democratic Party won't step up.

Bill Cosby case handed to jury
Prosecutors and police detectives read aloud portions of Cosby's statements to police in 2005 and in a civil deposition in 2006. Cosby's defense attorneys argue that his sexual contact with Constand was part of a consensual relationship between the two.

Rep. Tim Ryan (R-OH), who challenged Pelosi for the leadership past year, said on CNN: "The brand is just bad".

"I love the arena, I thrive on competition, and I welcome the discussion".

By getting the content of his memos into the news, "I thought that might prompt the appointment of a special counsel", Comey told the US Senate Intelligence Committee.

But as Democrats are eager to point out, there are many more districts - anywhere from 71 to 94, depending on how it's calculated - that are more competitive than Georgia's 6th District.

"Republicans blew through millions to keep a ruby-red seat, and in their desperate rush to stop the hemorrhaging, they've returned to demonizing the party's strongest fund-raiser and consensus builder", Drew Hammill, Pelosi's deputy chief of staff, told The New York Times.

Ryan, Pelosi's opponent last fall, said that Pelosi's continued role as the GOP's favorite bogeyman makes it "a heck of a lot harder" for Democrats as they try to notch victories in the GOP-friendly districts they will need to win next year. Ossoff was easily attacked as a callow creation of the resistance and a would-be foot soldier for Nancy Pelosi. Throughout the two-month campaign, Republican candidate Karen Handel consistently labeled Democrat Jon Ossoff "Nancy Pelosi's handpicked candidate".

'I do not believe she is an out-of-touch San Francisco liberal, ' Rice replied.

I'm not saying there are 0 reasons to get rid of Pelosi - just that it would be awfully backwards and disappointing if satiating the sexist and small-minded were the sole one.

"She will have to pick some issues she disagrees with the president on, going forward", the GOP aide said.
