Cindy weakened into a tropical depression after it made landfall in Louisiana but it still packed a punch, bringing heavy rain, flooding and at least one suspected tornado to the Gulf Coast states.

High tides in the wake of a weakening Tropical Depression Cindy prompted a voluntary evacuation in a coastal Louisiana town Thursday, and the storm's effects were being felt throughout the Southeast, with intermittent bands of heavy rain, blasts of high wind and periodic warnings of possible tornadoes in multiple states.

As far as the Red River Radio Listening area is concerned, Tropical Storm Cindy is expected to move into the area later today. Debris covers State Highway 87 after Tropical Storm Cindy made landfall earlier Thursday, June 22, 2017 on the Bolivar Peninsula in Texas.

As Tropical Storm Cindy approaches the border of Louisiana and Texas, the risk of flooding and severe thunderstorms will ramp up along the upper Gulf of Mexico coast.

As the storm pushes inland, the risk of severe thunderstorms and isolated tornadoes may extend into northern parts of Louisiana and MS on Thursday.

The governor says while she's in office, one of her highest priorities will be to make sure Alabama is well prepared at the state and local level to be ready to respond to any emergency down the road. Those storms will then spread across the southern half of the state with the southeast region predicted to get the most rain.

It resulted in consistently gray skies, slow commutes and downed trees. Some of the low-lying clouds were rotating, and gusty winds whipped across the landscape.

Forecasters also are checking damage at other locations in central and southern Alabama to determine whether tornadoes struck there. The TVA manages 49 dams to regulate water, provide power and help control downstream flooding. The floating colonies of insects known as red imported fire ants may look like ribbons, streamers or a large ball of ants floating on the water, entomologists said.
