Not 'that far off' from passing health overhaul

Sen. Ron Johnson said Sunday he won't vote for the chamber's healthcare reform measure - because it doesn't "fix the problem".

"We don't have the courage in Washington, the honesty, to talk about this issue with real facts", he said.

"If we get to impasse, if we go to a bill that is more repeal and less big government programs, yes, I'll consider partial repeal", he said.

That's not sitting well with GOP Sen.

Collins, a center-right Republican, allowed for the possibility that the Senate could work late during an open amendment process and said she would withhold a final decision on the bill until the Congressional Budget Office issues an assessment on its effects, which is expected in the coming days.

He reiterated to Politico in an interview that his opposition at this point is "not a bluff". And the president called Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren "somebody that's just got a lot of hatred".

But in his interview on Sunday, Trump seemed confident in the contents of the Senate's bill, as well as its passage - although he predicted some changes to placate the senators that are now not supporting the legislation. "But I think they're going to get there".

"We should not be voting on this next week", he insisted.

Supreme Court Will Hear Wisconsin Partisan Gerrymandering Case
Critics of gerrymandered districts say they undermine democracy, leaving voters with little influence over who represents them. The ruling was the first time in over three decades that a federal court invalidated a redistricting plan for partisan bias.

In the narrowly divided Senate, defections from just three of the 52 Republican senators would doom the legislation.

The president said he thinks Republicans in the Senate are doing enough to push through the bill.

Schumer described the GOP proposal as "devastating" to the middle class and "that's what's making it so hard for them to pass it".

Some GOP senators are not so sure about that. In addition, Susan Collins (R-ME) expressed reservations Thursday, and on Sunday said it would be "extremely difficult" for McConnell to "come up with a bill this week" that both she and Sen.

He told ABC's "This Week" the GOP has "at best, a 50-50 chance".

"We have a very good plan", he said.

President Donald Trump says he doesn't think congressional Republicans are "that far off" on passing a health overhaul to replace what he's calling "the dead carcass of Obamacare".

Trump was interviewed by "Fox & Friends", while Collins, Schumer and Paul appeared on ABC's "This Week".
