Joe Flacco's back issue will sideline him for preseason, expected to start Ravens' opener

Their starting quarterback has been out with a back injury. In the last two-plus weeks, the Ravens have lost three offensive linemen projected to either be starters or top reserves for the entire season: Lewis; starting center candidate John Urschel, who made a decision to retire on the morning of the team's first training camp workout; and rookie fourth-round guard Nico Siragusa, who tore up his knee in practice. Backup quarterback Ryan Mallett has struggled in training camp and the preseason at a time when the Ravens have expressed interest in controversial quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Dustin Vaughan and Josh Woodrum are the other quarterbacks on the roster.

He threw for 4,317 yards last season - which ranked No. 7 in the National Football League - alongside 20 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He also has a 61.5 percent completion percentage and an 84.5 passer rating for his career.

Per Kyle Barber of Baltimore Beatdown, the Ravens have lost seven players to season-ending injuries: Tavon Young, Kenneth Dixon, Nico Siragusa, Alex Lewis, Dennis Pitta, Crockett Gillmore, and Tim White.
