Following the furore over multitudes of deaths at Gorakhpur's Baba Raghav Das Medical College's hospital in a span of few days allegedly due to lack of oxygen supply, the principal of the college has been suspended from his duties. In April, Adityanath government claimed that they have started working on setting up six AIIMS and 25 new medical colleges in UP.

Yesterday, District Magistrate Rajeev Rautela addressed a press conference and confirmed the death of 30 children in the last two days and seven deaths in the last 24 hours.

Though the deaths coincided with a disruption in the hospital's oxygen supply Thursday, the province's government has denied a connection and said the children died of "various medical reasons and illnesses". However, he said the principal had told him that for emergency use, alternative arrangements have been made.

As many as 30 children lost their lives due to encephalitis in last 48 hours at Gorakhpur's BRD Hospital, reported ANI today.

Rejecting charges of shortage of oxygen at the hospital, Singh said the oxygen was available and supplied through other means. "Adityanath and Health Minister Siddharth Nath Singh should immediately resign from their post".
