Jamie Carragher And Jamie Redknapp Have A Lively Argument On Liverpool's Defence

Watford defender Miguel Britos bagged a dramatic 93rd-minute equaliser for Watford, as Liverpool's defence crumbled under pressure. What are they looking at?

The first concession came via a corner (a set-piece, which becomes the centre of discussion), as Stefano Okaka was unchallenged, allowing him to head at goal from only a few yards out.

The former England defender questioned whether Klopp had worked on defensive issues that were apparent last season and claims Southampton star Virgil van Dijk, who is linked with a move to Anfield, would not fix the problem. Who wanted to head that ball there?

He may have expected Carragher to agree. The way Liverpool are set up - set piece wise - they will always concede goals.

'Sadio Mane has been one of Liverpool's best players, who nearly took the game by the scruff of the net.

"I think Manchester United will be in there, they didn't make the top four past year but I think they will with the additions that they've made", he said.

"You've got Firmino there", Carragher countered.

Van Dijk is the Reds' priority target in the final weeks of the transfer window, with the Southampton centre-back having handed in a transfer request this week.

South Korea's military says prepared to act immediately against North Korean provocation
The Labor Department said its producer price index for final demand edged down by 0.1% in July after inching up by 0.1% in June. Cempra (CEMP) helped to lead the biotech sector lower, extending the pullback seen over the course of the previous session.

And Redknapp thinks Liverpool should stump up the cash for the centre-half in order to improve their defensive problems.

"But I don't care how good a centre-back, getting exposed on counter-attacks, you've got to cover the full width of the pitch, it's nearly impossible".

'If you want to challenge for the Premier League then you need to concede 30 or 35 goals, so they need to take 15 goals away.

Redknapp then said: "I think Van Dijk's agent should put another 20 grand a week on his contract".

"Talk about Van Dijk coming in, okay he's a good player, but it's from the side of the pitch, it's the way Liverpool are set up".

"I think Lukaku will get goals for them, especially in the games where they dropped points, at home against weaker opposition".

But once again Carragher disagreed, he said: "If Van Dijk was playing instead of Lovren or Matip - he would have been in one of their positions".
