Trump rejects diplomacy as North Korea reveals Guam missile strike plan

North Korea's Nuclear Threat Doesn't Phase Samsung's Shareholders

President Donald Trump threatened North Korea Tuesday with "fire and fury like the world has never seen", a line he likely came up with on his own, according to reports.

He sounded ready to push the button, and follow-up remarks from members of his administration did little to ease the tension he created. "The previous three presidents were not able to find an adequate solution [to the North Korea crisis], so he can't be blamed for all this".

Responding to a North Korea's threat to fire four missiles in the waters off the U.S. Pacific territory of Guam, home to U.S. military bases, Trump vowed a tough response. "But as far as the first strike, that should not be our call". We can not leave our national security and our families' safety in the hands of a President whose poor judgement, belligerence, vindictiveness and reckless impetuosity constitute an indictment of his mental health.

But the United States and North Korea have weapons far more risky than sabers. Foreign governments typically have a hard time interpreting USA politics and the free-wheeling nature of American television-driven discourse. And it's about time that somebody stuck up for the people of this country and for the people of other countries.

Among those distressed by the president's inflammatory words is U.S. Sen. The people of North Korea believe its leaders to be gods. Warner is among those who see the president as senselessly pouring verbal gasoline on a situation fraught with sufficient peril at a time when America has no credible plan for dealing with North Korea.

As Trump Threatens, US Negotiates With North Korea
The former intelligence director said he was concerned about the US beginning an unnecessary war with North Korea. Any negotiation would face huge skepticism in Washington given North Korea's long record of broken promises.

Kim accused Trump of spouting nonsense and said "sound dialogue" is not possible with a person "bereft of reason, and only absolute force can work on him", which drew a fair bit of attention in the press. Trump took the opportunity to bash former USA presidents who presided over a slowly nuclearizing North Korea and failed to bring the program to a halt. We also know that, if China were to enforce these sanctions and really cut North Korea off, North Korea would be in a much more hard position not to sit down and talk.

While the USA has daunting nuclear power, the Pentagon's program has been beset with morale, training, discipline and resource problems.

The president's apparent willingness to improvise marks a sharp departure from the carefully calculated approach past administrations have taken to countering years of over-the-top threats from North Korea and other delicate diplomatic matters.

Last month, North Korea successfully tested a long-range missile that could reach cities in the United States. While the US has daunting nuclear power, the Pentagons program has been beset with morale, training, discipline and resource problems. China needs to be much more aggressive because China could change the equations for North Korea. The sanctions angered North Korea, though China's enforcement remains a question.
