Bruno Mars' performance at the Palace of Auburn Hills, Mich. on August 12 was the ultimate showstopper as the singer surprised the crowd by announcing a $1 million donation to aid victims of the Flint water crisis.
Pop star Bruno Mars made a surprise announcement during his concert Saturday night in Auburn Hills, Michigan, announcing a $1 million donation to The Community Foundation of Greater Flint to address the city's water crisis.
Mars made the announcement to a screaming crowd of fans at his sold out show Saturday night at the Palace of Auburn Hills in MI. With the water not properly treated through its processing, it led to alarmingly high levels of lead with thousands exposed to contaminated water, including children.
The 31-year-old entertainer said in a statement that he was "very thankful" to his audience 'for joining [him] in supporting this cause, ' which remains a major issue in the community.
Mars, who was born and raised in Hawaii, is now travelling across the USA for his 24K Magic World Tour.
Mars' album "24K Magic" was released in November 2016 and has sold over 2 million copies. The river water was found to be 19 times more corrosive than water from Detroit causing lead poising in many of Flint's residents. Due to insufficient water treatment, it was later found to contain unsafe levels of lead. Replacement of lead pipes is not expected to be completed until 2020. Flint has switched back to Detroit for its water supply, and several state officials have resigned or are under indictment for negligence.
The four-time Grammy award winning artist isn't the only one to donate money to Flint.
