The military-built camp would house hundreds of asylum seekers in heated tents fitted with flooring and electricity while they wait for their refugee applications to be processed, said a statement from the military.

Philippe Couillard says he doesn't want to take people's hope away, but it's important that those crossing the United States border know what they're facing.

Olympics: LA approves host city contract for 2028 Games
The City Council had already given unanimous support to the LA 2024 bid and is expected to back 2028 at a meeting on Friday. With the legislature in recess, it is impossible to immediately guarantee they will approve the same amount for 2028.

Couillard spoke earlier today on the surge in asylum-seekers who have been crossing the border into Quebec in recent weeks.

The construction begins about a week after Montreal turned its Olympic Stadium into a shelter for refugees arriving from the US.

According to The Associated Press, those illegally crossing the border into Canada are doing so out of fear of being deported from the U.S. Most are Haitian nationals who have been living in the U.S. since an quake hit their home nation in 2010.
