Earthquake of magnitude 6.5 hits Indonesia's Sumatra; tremors felt in Singapore
Residents fled their homes as a 6.6-magnitude quake jolted Bengkulu province in the western part of Sumatra on Sunday morning.
A strong 6.4-magnitude natural disaster hit off the Indonesian island Sumatra on Sunday but there was no tsunami risk, seismologists said as panicked residents fled their homes.
Channel NewsAsia received calls from residents in Singapore living in Toa Payoh and Farrer Road saying they felt tremors.
The quake struck at a depth of 22 miles at 3.08am BST (10.08am local time) around 50 miles west of Bengkulu, but tremors were reportedly felt in Singapore, which is a whopping 368 miles from the Sumatra city.
