EPL: Red Devils face Hammers test

New faces ready for Premier League merry-go-round

Romelu Lukaku introduced himself to Old Trafford in triumphant fashion with two goals as Manchester United crushed West Ham United 4-0 in an impressive Premier League opener on Sunday.

The Red Devils finished sixth last season, largely due to their home form, and qualified for the Champions League by winning the Europa League.

West Ham United's Edimilson Fernandes (left) and Manchester United's Paul Pogba battle for the ball during the Premier League match at Old Trafford, Manchester.

Lukaku opened the scoring in the 33rd minute, blasting in off the post after latching on to a clever through ball from Rashford, who had run with the ball from deep in his own half.

Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba also scored.

Can't Tell You That - Arsene Wenger Refuses To Confirm Bids For Winger
The pressure will let up, the chemistry will build and before you know it, this will be his new home and he won't be new at all. The Serie A side have now said they will not increase their offer and Shakespeare is happy to have Mahrez in the team.

Juan Mata comes into the side ahead of Ander Herrera, who is on the bench, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Marcus Rashford supporting Lukaku.

And then in the final seconds, Pogba advanced forward from midfield before letting fly with a 20-yarder that both gave United their fourth goal of the afternoon and sent Mourinho's men to the top of the table with 37 matches left to play. Last campaign was full of too many inconsistences and Bilic will know he needs to start picking up points fast if he wants to prevent the exit rumours circulating once more.

RED DEVILS: De Gea, Valencia, Blind, Bailly, Jones, Matić, Pogba, Mata (Fellaini 75), Mkhitaryan (Lingard 88), Rashford (Martial 79), Lukaku.

Lukaku scored on his competitive debut for United in Tuesday's 2-1 UEFA Super Cup defeat to Madrid in Skopje and was named in Mourinho's starting line-up alongside Matic to make his Premier League bow against Slaven Bilic's side. And from the free-kick from Mkhitaryan Lukaku nods it home. They have to win the league. Lukaku's finish was emphatic, rebounding in off one of the uprights, and he rightly took the attention as a goal-scoring debutant, but Rashford's quick, direct running made it. Then, after being central to much of United's pretty play, Pogba chose to go it alone, carrying the ball forward unchallenged before angling a shot past Hart.

After spending several years struggling in the doldrums outside of the Champions League places in England, Jose Mourinho and company have their eye on returning not just to the title race this season, but to the champions' podium in the EPL.
