The White House statement importantly notes that Trump has not yet ruled out a military solution to North Korea's nuclear threat.

It said the United States was ready "along with its allies, to apply the full range of diplomatic, economic and military measures" to end any nuclear threat from the North.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Thursday that President Donald Trump is willing to launch a pre-emptive strike against North Korea if other options are exhausted.

Trump raised alarm around the world - and particularly in Asia - by warning that North Korea would face "fire and fury like the world has never seen" if it were to keep threatening the US.

"Trump reiterated to President Macron the United States' commitment to stop the North Korean nuclear menace".

According to the White House, Trump and Xi affirmed that the recent adoption of a new UN Security Council resolution regarding North Korea was an important and necessary step toward achieving peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
