NATO Urges 'Global Response' To 'Reckless' N. Korea Missile Launch
"Now it is not what we would prefer to do", McMaster said.
The worldwide community is scrambling to contain an increasingly belligerent North Korea, which in recent weeks has prompted global alarm by conducting its sixth and largest nuclear test and firing long-range missiles over Japan that it says could reach the United States mainland.
The remarks also came after H R McMaster, the US' National Security Adviser, reaffirmed that the Trump administration has military options in place for dealing with North Korea.
Kim had told his top officials that the goal of Pyongyang's efforts "is to establish the equilibrium of real force with the U.S. and make the USA rulers dare not talk about military option", according to the nation's state media. "This includes the regime of North Korea, which has one again shown its utter contempt for its neighbors, and the entire world community".
McMaster said it was unlikely that Trump would speak to Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro, whom the White House has sanctioned and called a dictator.
"Our final goal is to establish the equilibrium of real force with U.S. and make the United States rulers dare not talk about military option for North Korea", he was quoted as saying by KCNA.
"These sanctions are just now taking effect", he said, without providing evidence.
Nikki Haley says North Korea will be "destroyed" if it continues with what she describes as "reckless" behavior. "So, having said that, I have no problem with kicking it to (Defense Secretary James) Mattis because I think he has plenty of options". A new set of United Nations sanctions that even Trump declared a "small step", extensive talks and a rhetorical two-step that leaves them where they have been for years.
At the time, multiple other White House officials looked to refute Bannon's view.
"I believe it will further North Korea's isolation - diplomatic and economic isolation - because more and more nations are realising there's simply no collaboration with the global community".
Also today, holding urgent consultations over the ballistic missile launch, the Security Council expressed its grave concern that the DPRK is, by conducting such a launch over Japan as well as its recent actions and public statements, deliberately undermining regional peace and stability and causing grave security concerns around the world.
Trump has also threatened "fire and fury" in response to North Korea's threats.
"The two leaders agreed to work closely and to put stronger and more effective sanctions and pressure on North Korea in cooperation with the global community", South Korea's presidential spokesman Park Soo-hyun said.
