Hurricanes Harvey and Irma Will Damage Retailers' Third Quarter Sales
Climate change never should have become a partisan issue in the first place.
It might seem premature when people in the Caribbean, Florida and Texas are still mucking out their flooded homes.
To their credit, Newsweek has also run pieces discussing the link between climate change and stronger storms, but their decision to run this Cato piece is dangerously irresponsible, especially at this moment in time.
"The short version is, climate change makes these very bad storms worse", said Sean Sublette, a meteorologist with Climate Central, a nonprofit group that studies climate change. Storms will get worse. In the wake of Harvey and Irma and extreme weather-related loss events worldwide, it's time for economic reality to overcome ideology. The recovery from these catastrophic storms will take months, if not years.
"As the planet warms, the moisture content of the atmosphere will also increase". In recent years, the state has relaxed some regulations on seawalls and other structures to control rising sea levels.
Hurricane Irma, which tore through the Caribbean as a Category 5 storm on September 5 - before simmering down to Category 4 before making landfall in Florida - has been called the strongest Atlantic hurricane in history.
Both storms were massive in scope. In a news story published by The Telegraph, Allan said hurricanes, or tropical cyclones, require a set of atmospheric ingredients to form.
Nobody can say for sure how many more storms there might be this season.
"If this isn't climate change", Miami Mayor Tomás Regalado said as Irma bore down on Florida, "I don't know what is".
Other administration officials also refused to address the matter. That lesson involves, most glaringly, climate change; Irma and Hurricane Harvey, which struck two weeks earlier, are reminders that we live in an era of standardized disaster, with cities sprawling across what are now, effectively, floodplains.

After the game, several players said they were embarrassed by the lack of discipline and number of penalties by the Tigers. Quarterback Danny Etling was 13-of-29 for 137 yards, as a few of his passes were dropped.
And even though the odds of that happening are low - it would be an act of suicide by the North Korean dynasty - President Donald Trump is ready to spend billions on anti-missile systems, warships, cyberdefenses, air power and war games to defuse and deter this North Korean threat.
Pruitt does not believe climate change is a real, scientific, preventable phenomenon. While the science suggests that severe weather will become more frequent thanks to global warming, it is hard to say that global warming caused any specific storm. In short, climate change puts storms on steroids. Pruitt has said that he is going to review the report, and it hasn't been seen since.
Some scientists say that clear trend lines have emerged despite these limitations.
Polling aggregation website FiveThirtyEight estimates that "Hurricane Harvey dumped an estimated 27 trillion gallons of water on Texas and Louisiana". He made a similar statement about Harvey's victims.
What can we do to stop or slow down global warming? That's enough water to fill all the NFL and Division 1 college football stadiums more than 100 times over. The ocean is warmer.
Incidentally, former Vice President Al Gore's new movie about global-warming danger, "An Inconvenient Sequel", will play at 7 p.m. September 19 at Park Place Cinema, sponsored by the Citizens Climate Lobby of Charleston.
There's some debate among scientists as to whether future tropical storms will be stronger or more frequent.
Rising instances of mega storms have prompted environmental scientists and researchers to explore the underlying causes for them to occur. Deniers say the increasing destruction caused by natural events is just cyclical, not a permanent condition. Voila! It has disappeared as a problem to be solved.
But I think the rest of us can all chew gum and walk at the same time. "I will tell you that we continue to take seriously the climate change - not the cause of it, but the things that we observe", Homeland Security Adviser Tom Bossert said.
New York Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles
The Yankees own an 11-6 advantage in the season series and it's because of an offense that has produced 141 runs so far. NY tied the game when first baseman Chris Davis misplayed Bird's grounder into an error , allowing Headley to score.
Catalan Mayors defy courts ahead of referendum
City authorities have been forced to sign an agreement that federal money will not be used for referendum purposes. This is what we regret most of all", Neus Lloveras, member of the Catalonian parliament, told RT.
