Jerry Jones has reportedly 'impeded' Roger Goodell's contract extension talks

Super Bowl LI- New England Patriots v Atlanta Falcons

Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen of ESPN reported Sunday that Jones has been leading a group of people who have some opposition to Goodell's proposed extension.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is reportedly doing his best to slow down Roger Goodell's latest contract negotiations, adding another awkward twist in the saga involving the Dallas Cowboys, Ezekiel Elliott and the NFL.

While not an official member of the committee that leads the discussion for Goodell's next contract, Jones has recently taken a larger role and is now considered the unofficial seventh member.

The increasingly edgy relationship between Jones and Goodell has sharpened to the point where Goodell's long-term future could be in question, according to league sources.

Remember, Elliott was originally suspended six games for his alleged involvement in multiple domestic violence situations.

Boris Johnson returns to Brexit debate with polemic attacking 'bottler' Remainers
The Prime Minister must spell out now how this will be paid for, or stand condemned for once again trying to mislead the British public.

The compensation committee includes six owners - Robert Kraft (Patriots), Arthur Blank (Falcons), Clark Hunt (Chiefs), John Mara (Giants), Bob McNair (Texans) and Art Rooney II (Steelers).

"If not for Jerry", one person familiar with the contract negotiations said this weekend, "this deal would be done".

The 58-year-old Goodell succeeded Paul Tagliabue in September 2006.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell makes more money than most anyone in the world of sports on an annual basis and most of the league's owners have been pretty happy to let him make that much as the NFL has reached record levels of prosperity on Goodell's watch. The NFL is no longer required to file his salary as the league office has given up its non-profit status, thus salary figures are no longer available. Jones has stated repeatedly that Elliott did nothing wrong, and the league and player are in a prolonged back-and-forth that likely won't be settled this season.
