India Landry, a 17-year-old high school student at Windfern High School, has been practicing her right to free speech by protesting the Pledge of Allegiance for quite some time now.

Windfren High School student India Landry has consistently chosen to remain seated in class while the Pledge of Allegiance is recited for almost 7 months.

After India agreed to improve her performance, Strother told Landry the teenager would not be allowed to return unless she stood for the Pledge.

"The principal said, 'Stand up or you're out of here, ' " India said, adding that she was told that if she didn't leave campus quickly, she would be escorted off campus by police.

Although the student reportedly returned to school on Friday, Landry's attorney later filed a suit against the school.

The mother called school administrators on October 3 and 4 to see if India could return to school, she says, and Strother finally agreed to meet with her the morning of October 5.

India Landry looked through her homework in her home Thursday afternoon.

The Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District released a statement saying a student would not be expelled for refusing to stand for the pledge, reports. The district also announced an investigation into the incident.

'They said you are kicked out of here, ' she told the newspaper. The 1943 Supreme Court case West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette, which permits students the ability to opt out of the Pledge of Allegiance, was referenced in the lawsuit.

"I don't think that the flag is what it says it's for, for liberty and justice and all that", India said, according to the station. It's not obviously what's going on in America today, ' she said.

A Houston teenager is suing her high school, claiming she was expelled for not standing during the Pledge of Allegiance. Critics of the protests say Americans should respect their nation's flag and that not doing so is particularly disrespectful to veterans.

But Pence walked out after several 49ers players opted to take a kneeduring the national anthem.

Kaepernick led the 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2013. National Football League players had recently taken action to protest some of President Trump's statements. "I was actually terrified, I see what's going on with the country", the student's mother Kizzy told the New York Daily News on Saturday.

The claim likewise charges that India was told after she was removed that "if your mother does not arrive in five minutes the police are coming".
