Kindle Oasis 2 vs Oasis: What's new in the 2017 model?

Amazon's New Kindle Oasis Syncs Audible With Kindle And Safely Works In The Bath

People can pre-order the new Kindles online now, and the devices will ship on October 31.

If you want to have free cellular connectivity so you can download books anywhere you want it'll cost £319.99/$349.99 (about AU$450). Audiobooks show up in the ebook gallery with a headphone icon appended, and once opened you can tap to switch between the text and audio versions (the Kindle Oasis remembers which you were using last, and re-opens it in that state). Pricing starts at $250 for the 8GB model and $280 for a 32GB incarnation.

The new Oasis has an aluminium rear, and Amazon says its display is protected by "our strongest cover glass". The big change this time is the larger 7-inch screen, which Amazon says can hold 30 percent more text than before.

The reader now has a 7-inch e-ink display, a full inch larger than its predecessor. (Calling last year's model Oasis when it wasn't waterproofed, or even water-resistantis nearly insulting to Amazon's customers.) The new e-reader has been tested in two meters of water for up to 60 minutes.

Kindle fans, rejoice. Amazon has listened and is finally bringing a waterproof ereader to market - nearly 10 years after the internet giant debuted the first Kindle device.

The design is very much as laid down by the original Oasis, with a slim body behind the display and a pronounced bulge at one side, housing all the brains and the battery.

The biggest upgrade this year is that the Kindle Oasis 2 is that it's the first Amazon e-reader to come with an IPX8 waterproof rating. The optional flip covers might have lost their battery-boosting abilities as a result, but a month and a half should be enough for just about anyone.

Utah officer fired after nurse's arrest caught on video
He told Wubbels his supervisor said he should arrest her if she didn't allow the draw. Last month, an internal investigation found Payne and his watch commander Lt.

Amazon said the Kindle Oasis will keep running for up to six weeks. Amazon will sell water-safe covers that start at $44.99 and leather covers at $59.99.

"Its thin, light and waterproof design allows readers to stay engaged in the author's world in even more places than ever before".

If you already procured a new Kindle past year, you're in luck, too. (Amazon has tried its hand at both, finding more success with Fire-branded tablets than the discontinued Fire phone).

One last new feature mirrors Apple's True Tone display as built-in ambient light sensors can automatically adjust the Oasis's display to compensated for your surroundings, whether you're in a dimly-lit room or outside in direct sunlight.

The device itself should also be a bit faster than before-an Amazon spokesperson said the new model runs on a dual-core 1GHz NXP i.MX7D processor, up from the Cortex-A9 chip in the last Oasis. But what makes the new Kindle the ultimate e-reading machine?

It's still expensive though and we'd only recommend buying the Kindle Oasis (2017) if you're going to be using your ereader a lot.
