11 October 2017, 07:58 | Lucia Cruz
In the wake of a fake audio clip doing rounds that says that the migrant workers from the northern states working in the state are being subjected to attacks, he said that people should be careful about such a north-India based malicious campaign. There is an ulterior motive behind the false propaganda that migrant workers were attacked. Whenever the migrant workers in the state lost their lives in accidents, the government had taken special care to help their families. These are misinformation, " he said. "Kerala is a safe State for all", he said at a press conference held in English, Hindi and Bengali on Tuesday. He said that unlike what is being spread, the migrant workers are getting due recognition in the state, and the government is coming up with several welfare initiatives for them.
The police have started a comprehensive investigation under the Cyber division to trace the message's origin. In the event of migrant workers having any safety concerns, they could immediately report the matter to the nearby police stations.
Mr. Behera also said that he would try to convey his message through his counterparts in West Bengal and Odisha from where the maximum numbers of migrants come. Kozhikode City police chief Mahesh Kumar will coordinate the investigation, Behera said. But tracing it is a hard task, " he said. He told the other-State workers not to believe in the disinformation campaign disseminated over social media platforms. "Some people are trying to detract the migrant labourers through such messages, " he said.
Kozhikode District Hotel and Restaurants Association president T V Muhammed Suhail said that a false campaign had led to workers returning to their homes.
