In North America, cases of West Nile virus (WNV) occur during mosquito season, which starts in the summer and continues through fall.
The 74-year-old died on September 12, according to the Health Department.
During regular tests in Oswego County last week, officials said they found EEE and West Nile Virus in pools in Hastings, Palermo and West Monroe.
The Ohio Department of Health is reporting a total of 22 human cases of West Nile virus across the state.

Less than 1 percent of infected people develop a serious neurologic illness, such as encephalitis or meningitis (inflammation of the brain or surrounding tissues).
Residents are advised to empty standing water on their property and wear long sleeves and repellents when outdoors.
