Cubs, MLB Sued by Fan After Being Struck by Ball That Left Him Blind in 1 Eye

Fan who Lost Sight in Eye after being hit with Foul Ball Files Lawsuit Filed Against MLB, Chicago Cubs

A northwest suburban man who permanently lost sight in his left eye after he was hit by a line-drive foul ball in August at Wrigley Field is suing Major League Baseball and the Chicago Cubs, his attorneys said.

To ensure adequate security for Cubs fans, metal detectors are in place at Wrigley Field. ABC7 reached out to Major League Baseball, but have not heard back.

Mitch Dudek and Nader Issa of the Chicago Sun-Times reported Loos' seat was only a few rows behind the Pirates' dugout in foul territory down the first-base line.

The idea of netting down the lines has been a major talking point down the stretch of the 2017 season after a young girl was hit by a foul ball off the bat of New York Yankees third baseman Todd Frazier on September 20.

Loos isn't the first to complain about the lack of safety netting.

The lawsuit follows a number of incidents in which fans have been hit by foul balls, prompting calls for teams to install more safety netting at stadiums.

Sergio Aguero targets early Manchester City return after auto crash
Aguero, 29, is just one goal short of Eric Brook's all-time club record of 177 goals. The striker had been in Amsterdam to see Colombian pop star Maluma perform.

Perez noted the Cubs were one of the teams to announce they would soon add more protective netting after the Frazier incident.

Loos eye is heavily bandaged after undergoing three surgeries and it is not yet known if his eye is going to fully recover.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said after the incident involving the two year old that the MLB had worked with teams in recent seasons to expand the safety netting, which is now only used behind the home plate.

A spokesman for the Cubs said the team had not seen the lawsuit but declined comment.

"It was just too fast", Loos said at a press conference Monday.
