PAUL SCHOLES HAS emerged as one of the candidates in the running for the vacant managerial post at League One club Oldham Athletic.

Oldham have been without a manager since John Sheridan left in September with the Latics bottom of League One.

Scholes is a life-long Oldham fan and a regular visitor to Boundary Park but has no managerial experience apart from a brief stint as part of Ryan Giggs' backroom staff following David Moyes' dismissal as Manchester United manager.

News which will no doubt come as a surprise to caretaker boss and former frontrunner Richie Wellens (6/4) who has won all three games since taking charge of the first-team following Sheridan's exit.

Paul Scholes hosted training session for the club's youth team past year while working towards his UEFA coaching badges and has never hidden his love for the Latics.
