Attempted prison escape in North Carolina leaves multiple employees injured

According to reports, a failed escape in North Carolina's Pasquotank Correctional Institution left several officers injured, APA reports quoting CNN. Stay on top of breaking news stories with the ABC11 News App One prisoner managed to escape and remains on the loose, 13NewsNow reported.

Officials were responding Thursday to an attempted prison break at Pasquotank Correctional Institute in North Carolina, where multiple people had been injured. Calls to Correction Enterprises and the Department of Public Safety Thursday weren't immediately returned.

In response to the incident, three nearby schools, Northside Elementary, Elizabeth City Middle School and Pasquotank County High School, have been placed on lockdown per instruction from Emergency Management.

"Students on buses who had not arrived home already, were brought back to the schools due to the potential of inmates being in the area and students in transport", the district said.

Attempted escape at Pasquotank CI in Eliz City around 3:30 pm.

A spokesperson from the Sentara Albemarle Medical Center told WAVY the hospital has taken in six patients, but did not specify if they were all prison employees. The lockdown was lifting about 4:45 p.m.

The facility is an all-male prison with almost 900 inmates.

The jail houses just shy of 900 men, as per its site.
