Sen. Schatz on Trump's Threat to NBC
Wednesday, President Donald Trump threatened the broadcasting licenses of NBC in a series of tweets.
Trump's comment was "not only unsafe to the American people's right to access responsible journalism, it represents a clear misunderstanding on his part of how much control the federal government can exercise as it relates to networks and cable channels", Dan Shelley, the executive director of the Radio Television Digital News Association, said in a statement.
Trump has been on a rampage since NBC News published a pair of reports about a meeting Trump had over the summer.
In his earlier tweet, the President had asked, albeit rhetorically, when it was appropriate to start challenging news outlets' licenses.
But Trump wouldn't be able to revoke any licenses from news networks. "Bad for country!" he added in another tweet. Either force him out of office, or wait till we get enough evidence and go ahead with impeachment proceedings, because this behavior that he is exhibiting here, threatening media outlets, pretending that he's some sort of authoritarian dictator, this is not acceptable in the United States and something has to be done to remove this man from power. "Are you tonight recanting the oath you took on January 20th to preserve, protect, and defend the First Amendment?"
Paris plans ban on combustion-engine cars by 2030
The mayor's office released a statement clarifying its aims after news outlets reported that the city was banning gasoline cars . A few months later, Paris converted the lower quays along the Seine from motorways into promenades for pedestrians and cyclists.
Second of all, and this is something that you would think a highly intelligent person like Donald Trump would understand, CNN points this out very well, there is no broadcast license for NBC.
For Halloween, Trump will be handing out tricks, not treats, dressed as President Richard Nixon, who had tried to thwart the renewal of licenses for Florida TV stations owned by the Washington Post, in 1972.
"Of all the threats to the company during Watergate - the attempts to undermine our credibility, the petty slights, and favoring of the competition - the most effective were the challenges to the licenses of our two Florida television stations", Graham later recounted in he memoir.
The tweet capped off a day of attacks lodged at the media.
