The UAE announced on Thursday that it will terminate the missions of North Korea's non-resident ambassador and its own non-resident envoy to the North Korean capital, Pyongyang and that it will stop issuing new visas and business licenses to North Koreans.

Several thousand North Korean workers reside in the US-allied Gulf region, mainly working on construction sites.

The 2 nations say money earned by North Korean migrant workers is allowing Pyongyang to continue its nuclear and missile programs.

"The UAE announces its full support to the new US strategy to deal with the Iranian policies undermining security and stability", WAM said on its twitter account. It has already halted issuing visas to North Koreans wishing to work there and sent back the North Korean ambassador.

Experts say North Korean laborers help Pyongyang avoid worldwide sanctions and raise money for its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs. North Korean laborers working overseas are one of the major sources of foreign currency for Pyongyang. "Visas to North Korean nationals will not be renewed", it said.
