Tight security in place for tomorrow's Tipu Jayanti
Over 150 BJP workers have been detained in Karnataka's Hubli, police said.
The women members held the pestle, symbolic of Onake Obavva killing soldiers of Hyder Ali, the father of Tipu Sultan, using the pestle when they attacked Chitradurga Fort.
An incident of stone throwing at a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bus was reported in the hill town of Madikeri, during a protest against the celebrations, ANI reported. "We have not made any preventive arrests so far but if the situation rises, section 144 (prohibitory order) may be imposed", Kumar said.
In Bengaluru, police commissioner T Suneel Kumar said that no processions would be allowed either for or against Tipu Sultan on Friday.
"No procession or anti-procession will be permitted in the city. If required, we will impose Section 144 and a strict action will be taken against anyone who breaks the rules", Kumar said.
To avoid any such mishap this year, the government has refrained from taking the unneeded chances and deployed the additional forces across Karnataka's southern region including Bengaluru, Kodagu, Mandya, Mysuru and Mangaluru.
Police presence has also been increased in the city of Kalaburagi.
BJP and other outfits, which are opposing the celebrations, will observe it as a Black Day. BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said that the Congress-led government is anxious about Tipu Sultan instead of the state's public while the Siddaramaiah led Congress government has made a decision to continue with its plans to celebrate the birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan.
Earlier, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmaker from the state Prahlad Joshi had alleged that Tipu Sultan was "anti-Hindu, anti-Kannada and exploited India".
On Tuesday, the Karnataka High Court refused to stay the Tipu Sultan birth anniversary celebrations on November 10.
Union minister Anantkumar Hegde wrote to the state government saying he should not be invited to the event because Tipu was a "brutal killer, wretched fanatic, and mass rapist".
