Alex Anthopoulos Reportedly Will Be Named Braves GM

Alex Anthopoulos to be hired as Braves GM

Anthopoulos is set to be hired by the Atlanta Braves for their GM job, the New York Post's Joel Sherman reported on Sunday evening. The high-energy, 40-year-old baseball executive rejected a five-year extension with the Blue Jays at the end of the 2016 season.

The Braves have been without a general manager since John Coppolella resigned over a month ago.

MLB's continuing Braves investigation is said to be in the final stages, but word is that a decision about possible penalties may still be a few weeks away.

The Braves had first tried to interview Royals GM Dayton Moore, previously a top Braves executive, for their top baseball job soon after the scandal came to light, but Moore has three years remaining on his deal and Royals owner David Glass declined the Braves' overtures, as is allowed.

Qualcomm 'set to reject' Broadcom takeover offer
It was also said the offer does not price in the "uncertainty associated with getting the deal approved by regulators ". The sources said Broadcom was preparing to submit a slate of directors by Qualcomm's December 8 nomination deadline.

Even after the Braves were denied permission to speak to Moore in late October, there was still lingering hope that permission would eventually be granted.

Anthopoulos, who served as GM of the Blue Jays from 2009-15, is expected to be introduced Monday at the general managers' meetings in Orlando.

Anthopolous was a scout with the Expos and Blue Jays before becoming one of baseball's youngest-ever GMs. The former Blue Jays GM will be taking over for John Coppalella, who was sacked following MLB's investigation into the team's activities in the global market. If he is removed from his current role, the Braves would not necessarily have to name somebody president of baseball operations; the GM hired could handle the responsibilities of the role.

The results of the investigation will determine Hart's future.
