Facebook is killing Messenger Day and consolidating it with Facebook Stories
"For a lot of people, the most meaningful things that they do on Facebook on a daily basis are [centered] around a group they're in or an event they're attending or maybe even a page that they manage or follow".
Capitalising on the shortfalls of Snapchat Stories, Facebook aims to enable greater interaction across the app, thereby creating sharing opportunities for its users form different demographics and encourage original content sharing, rather than generic link sharing.
Facebook has also recently introduced collaborative Stories to events. This also means that Stories once seen on Messenger will be marked as seen in the Facebook app. Just a month ago, the company started testing a useful tool that allows you to cross-post Stories from Instagram to Facebook. The new feature allows members to contribute Stories that can only be viewed by the members of the group or event, a flawless feature for private functions such as parties, and weddings. The fact is that most people who share things on Messenger Day don't bother to share it separately on Facebook Stories, and automatically syncing the Stories across both the services makes a lot of sense.
Firstly, the Messenger Day feature has been shelved and its functionality merged with Facebook Stories. Starting today, users of Facebook Groups and Events will be able to contribute to a Story visible to the rest of the members and moderated by the admins.
India Inflation Accelerates More Than Expected
Moreover, the pass-through of the goods and services tax (GST) to final prices of various goods and services may not be complete. June was the first month the inflation fell outside the band since inflation targeting was first adopted by India.
It's also withdrawing the Facebook Direct messaging feature in favour of handling Stories replies and messages via Messenger, the report suggests.
Update: This post has been updated to clarify Stories from Groups, Events and Pages will not be available in Messenger.
The Stories format was originally a unique aspect of Snapchat, which has seen a noticeable decline in user growth since the feature was added to Instagram. Now that Messenger and Facebook Stories are connected, Facebook is hoping the feature will cause less confusion around when people should post in the different apps.
