4 killed in 1-94 crash near Detroit; child survives

A 1-year-old buckled into what police described as an ill-fitting auto seat was the only survivor after an SUV crashed into a bridge near Detroit early Monday, killing the vehicle's other four occupants, including the child's mother. Two men were ejected and found dead on the interstate and two women were found dead inside the SUV.

The sole survivor of the crash was the toddler.

State police say a 1-year-old Detroit boy suffered minor injuries in the 1 a.m. Monday crash on eastbound Interstate 94 in Harper Woods.

A 2-year-old boy was seen walking away from the wreck with firefighters, Local 4 Detroit reported.

“The baby was in the vehicle seat. that was the only thing that probably. saved the baby, ” a tearful John Wade, who was at the scene of the crash, told WXYZ-TV (Channel 7).

The 26-year-old will have to fight for his place at club and global level, with his replacements prospering in his absence. Robertson played in Scotland's friendly defeat to Netherlands last week and said: "I was delighted to get 90 minutes".

Rear passengers were Armonie Maddox, 18, of Detroit and brother of Alesia; and Ervin Johnson, 18, of Eastpointe.

Police said the young child was buckled into the auto seat, and only suffered minor injuries. "That was the only thing that probably ... saved the baby".

Police believe speed was a factor, but they have not determined the exact cause.

"It wasn't the right age, it wasn't the right fit, it wasn't the right anything and still saved this kid's life", Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said of the auto seat that was holding a 1-year-old.

State Police were at the scene of a tragic crash on I-94 at Eight Mile in Harper Woods after an SUV took the curve too fast. "And I can tell you from experience people fly down this stretch going 80 miles per hour, don't think about it".
