Report: Nintendo Making Animated Mario Movie With Studio Behind Minions

A New Mario Movie Could Happen As Nintendo Reportedly Nears Deal With Despicable Me Studio

The final agreement is yet to be signed, with Nintendo reportedly eager to ensure it maintains a degree of control - Shigeru Miyamoto would likely be a producer.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Nintendo and Universal Studios are working to adapt Super Mario Bros. into a feature-length animated film. Universal Pictures for reaching a deal at Nintendo for an animated Super Mario Bros. movie.

Is Amazon Adding Ad-Supported 'Prime TV' Service
It's not the first time a company has attempted to offer premium content using ads to replace a monthly subscription fee. As part of its strategy to swoon content creators, Amazon may share audience information with them alongside ad revenue.

According to one of the sources, negotiations have been a little slow because Nintendo needs to feel confident it'll be involved in the creative process. Right now, the deal is one for one movie, but there is potential for more.

After the weird but strangely lovely disaster that was the live-action 1993 Super Mario Bros movie, it's not hard to believe Nintendo's being a tough negotiator this time around.

Illumination Entertainment is a well known animation studio, best known for their mid-budget, charming animated films that manage to make money off their high concepts. You may recall that Nintendo used to be much more active in terms of allowing outside companies to produce films and series based on their properties.
