After Texas church shooting, 'most of our church family is gone'
Devin Patrick Kelley carried out the deadliest mass shooting in Texas history on Sunday, killing 25 people and an unborn child at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, near San Antonio.
Jessika Edwards, a former Air Force staff sergeant who said she worked with Kelley at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico, told CNN that Kelley often got into trouble.
Brennaman, 25, told the tabloid TV show that Kelly was mean and abusive towards her and once threatened to kill her over a parking ticket.
"There would be times where I would be on the floor curled up, and having to protect my organs because he would be violently kicking me on my side", she said in the interview clips released by "Inside Edition".
Kelley also was accused of pointing a loaded firearm and an unloaded firearm at the woman, according to the court-martial documents, but he pleaded not guilty to those allegations and they were "withdrawn and dismissed with prejudice after arraignment".
Kelley pleaded guilty assaulting Ms Brennaman and fracturing her young son's skull in 2012 while he was in the US Air Force. As a convicted felon, he would not have been able to purchase a gun if the Air Force had reported his status.
The obsession was so pronounced, Edwards said, that when Kelley was disciplined for poor performance she told her bosses to "back off or he would shoot the place up".
He was confined to a military prison for one year in the case, and received a bad conduct discharge from the Air Force.
The mother-in-law sometimes attended services at the church, but she wasn't there the day of the shootings.
